Public Catches Hit & Run Myvi Driver; Turns Him Over To The Police

Nobody likes a hit and run. So, it didn’t come as a surprise when the public involved themselves in catching the culprit of this particular accident.

A 26-year-old local man in a Myvi was speeding when he crashed into a Proton Waja and a van. The accident happened on 22nd February at Bandar Kinrara, Puchong. The Myvi rammed into the back of the van and collided with the other car, leaving debris scattered across the road. The culprit then tried to escape on foot.

Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Azman Shari’ stated at about 2.40pm, they received a report about the incident. The public had apparently approached a nearby police officer and informed him of the crash. They also told the police officer they had surrounded the driver who had tried to escape. The man was arrested and investigated for the case under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

According to Azman, the van driver was seriously injured in the crash and was being treated in Serdang Hospital’s emergency ward. He also revealed that the front of the Myvi was squashed, the van was badly damaged and the Proton Waja’s rear end had been totalled. Thankfully, the other victims of the crash only suffered minor injuries and have been discharged from the hospital. “The driver of the Myvi who caused the accident has been escorted by the police to the court today (23rd February),” he said. The suspect is currently facing a two-day detention order.
