Have you ever seen a pooch’s eye getting replaced by a stick-on googly eye? If not, this story is for you! The owner of this endearing pooch decided to replace its missing eye with a stick-on googly eye, and the photos took the internet by storm.
Amy Higgins, 26, is the owner of Samson, an adorable 7-year-old Italian greyhound. Last week, she came across some googly eyes for sale online, and it didn’t take her long to conclude that they will make an amazing gift for Samson. Amy is a vet’s assistant. Therefore, when the googly eyes arrived, she immediately stuck one to Samson’s eye socket which was empty and sealed.
After Amy shared pics of the funny-faced pooch on Facebook, it didn’t take long for them to gain thousands of likes. She stated that everyone thought the pictures were hilarious, and they helped to brighten and cheer up their day. She also expressed her happiness about being able to make people smile through Samson’s pics.
The pictures went viral on Facebook, and have since gained over 15,000 likes. Amy wrote that she couldn’t even control her own laughter while taking snaps of Samson, which resulted in the pup getting all excited.
Both Amy and Jonathan Church, her partner, are animal lovers. They maintain a personal menagerie consisting of many animals including hedgehogs, crayfish, mice, rats hermit crabs, and three dogs, including Samson. Samson’s eye was removed last year when he developed severe cataracts in his eyes which failed to respond to treatment.
Although Amy went forward with the £4,000 surgery to fix Samson’s eyes, his right eye could not be healed. When the surgery was over, pressure in the eye was increasing. This made the poor pooch very uncomfortable. The couple attempted to reduce the pressure using various eye drops too. But at last, they decided to have the eye removed as it was what’s best for Samson. Luckily, Samson’s left eye functioned very well post-surgery, and he has perfect vision in it.
Amy further explained: “He occasionally will forget that he has a blind side and walk into people’s legs and walls but he is very happy now that he can see properly with his one good eye”.
