Mori Kono is a Japanese wood carving artist and is the frontman of MK Carving and Sculpting based in Abbotsford, BC, Canada. The specialty of his carvings is that they are impressively detailed, and are also hyper-realistic. Most of them show a natural movement of the animals such a hanging from a wooden log or crawling from a tree. His sculptures are carved using fallen yellow and red cedar, alder, and birch wood.

Some of Kono’s work includes carved doors and woodcarving restoration, precisely and creatively crafted to ensure customer satisfaction. Kono’s team accepts both large-scale and small-scale carvings. Small customs gifts too are crafted as commissioned projects for private clients. Aside from sculptures, Kono’s team even creates mantels, architectural decors, wood signs, totem poles, and centerpieces for hotel lobbies.

To carve extremely complicated details from the wood, Kono utilizes a small chisel and some other power tools. The liveliness and the realistic nature of the sculpture are further enhanced by the addition of more colors to highlight features such as eyes, feathers, and fur.
