WandaVision Finale: What Book Was Scarlet Witch Reading At The End?

During an interview with Jimmy Fallon this week, Elizabeth Olsen assured fans that Marvel’s “WandaVision” finale would be “a complete tee-up” for her character arc in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. Now it makes sense.

The 9th episode of “WandaVision” not only dropped some Easter eggs for fans to analyse, but it also teased on what to expect in future Marvel films. The mid credits scene teased that big things are in store for Monica Rambeau after she gets a visit from a Skrull.

However, it’s the post credits scene that people can’t get enough of. Following the events of Westview, we see Wanda Maximoff now living secluded in a remote cabin home. Although the scene was filmed in Ireland, fans suspect that it’s probably Wundagore Mountain – the location where Wanda and Pietro grew up in the comics.

The camera zooms into the backroom of the cabin and we find Scarlet Witch in astral projection form. It’s safe to assume that she’s currently learning about her powers from the “book of the damned”, known as Darkhold, after getting hold of it from sorceress Agatha Harkness.

So what is the Darkhold and how is it connected to next year’s Doctor Strange sequel?

The Darkhold is a tome that essentially contains dark magic spells. Made from substance found in the Hell Dimension, comic book fans will be familiar with the terrifying villains attached to it – namely the Elder God Chthon, who wrote the Darkhold, and Mephisto, who uses the book for evil.

Many assumed that Mephisto was going to be the main villain in “WandaVision”, but he could appear in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” instead. Agatha already pointed out to Wanda that “your power exceeds that of the Sorcerer Supreme”.

Since Doctor Strange has never used the Darkhold nor practiced dark magic, seeing Wanda go down this path suggests that this powerful Avenger isn’t going to have a happy future. Also, is this the last we’ve seen of Billy and Tommy?

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will only hit the big screen in March 2022.
