Galeri Ariani’s Raya Collection Accused Of Copying Hijab Brand’s 2019 Designs

Famous hijab brand, Galeri Ariani, has unveiled the latest designs for its Hari Raya 2021 collection earlier this month.

The new bawal hijab collection, aptly referred to as the “Sq Inflorescene”, comes with various designs that feature soft-coloured floral patterns.

However, things unexpectedly turned sour after the husband to the founder and also the creative director of the brand Tudung People, Ahmad Bakri Yusuf, claimed that Ariani had stolen the designs from the hijab label’s collection from 2019. “Looks familiar. Galeri Ariani’s 2021 collection and Tudung People 2019’s. I don’t think it’s a coincidence,” Bakri wrote on Twitter. His tweet had since went viral with over 6.5k retweets at the time of writing (Monday, 26th April).

A lot of netizens took to the replies section to share their two cents on the matter. When one Twitter user suggested he take legal action against the brand, Bakri said, “It’s not easy like the ones we watch on 7pm soap operas, bro. The big brands know it too, that’s why they dare to do it. The IP is messy due to overlapping of precedences and references. But I guess they thought we wouldn’t notice it.”

Apart from that, the comments section on Ariani’s official Instagram account was also flooded with many netizens leaving negative remarks in response to the controversy. Others even pointed out the glaring similarities between the two headscarf designs. To quote one IG user, “SMH I’ve always liked this brand, but not anymore. Coming from a big brand, you guys are so low, man.”

So far, there has been no official statement issued by Ariani to address the allegation.
