However, the level of denial of a person may not be the actual issue. Lamia states that people recognizing their denial isn’t what’s important. Rather, what leads to denial is their ability to accept what they are feeling.

According to Lamia, people use denial for a number of purposes. Shame, fear, guilt, distress, and getting rid of positive emotions are some of them. Therefore, when you are in denial, you are mostly trying to ignore the truth. You are trying to suppress your true feelings, rather than your thoughts or actions.
