Women Share Unedited Body Pics To ‘Normalize Normal Bodies’

Each and every day, so many ‘perfect’ social media posts make us question our self-worth. The absolutely unrealistic body standards set by such posts are truly harmful because they make us feel insecure and unconfident about our own bodies.

The truth is, these ‘perfect’ photos take lots of effort behind the scenes. Professional lighting, correct posing, extreme work-outs prior to photoshoots, getting implants, countless pictures before selecting the right one, photo-editing, etc. are some of them. When done right, anyone can turn into a social media model or fitness blogger. However, this is a fake perception of reality and such highly unachievable looks put lots of pressure on women.

The UK Addiction Treatment Group had more to say about unrealistic body standards and how this affects the mental health of women. According to Nuno Albuquerque, the Head of Treatment for the UKAT Group, especially young adults and children are negatively affected by such ‘perfect’ social media images.

He explained that when such pics are continuously promoted, an obsession for perfection might develop in women. This can lead to psychological disorders which can result in the eating disorder Anorexia Nervosa. Experts say that loving and accepting oneself comes from within. However, it’s very much influenced by the environment. In that sense, each and every one of us is partly responsible for the way some people feel about themselves. Albuquerque also stated that every person in a society should contribute to creating an environment where self-love and support are encouraged. For this, all types of body types, shapes, colors, and sizes should be promoted.

Loving and accepting yourself can be very challenging to many people. But once you start to love yourself, you will become very confident about yourself.
