Just a few weeks ago, Apple unveiled the new colour variant for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini – and it’s purple.
Purple is the 6th colour tone for the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini, following black, white, blue, green, Product Red. However, purple isn’t available for the iPhone 12 Pro or 12 Pro Max – which doesn’t surprise us since the Pro models tend to stick to graphite, silver and gold finishes.
1. The Colour Purple
Apple is a genius when it comes to launching a new colour, and more often than not, it works. Albeit subtle, the company changes hues on an annual basis. This allows connoisseurs to recognise the latest season’s model.
2. iPhone 12 Purple Vs iPhone 11 Purple
Although the iPhone 11 was also available in purple, the new purple is different. In comparison, the purple iPhone 12 is punchier and more dramatic than the 11. While iPhone 11 was more of a light lavender, the purple iPhone 12 is richer.
3. Eye-catching and striking in person
In outdoor sunlight, the colour looks more mauve in brighter exposure, and more violet in the shadows. But regardless whatever light you’re in, it’s quintessentially purple. To quote The Verge’s Dieter Bohn:
“It’s a lightish shade of purple. One might be tempted to call it lavender, but to me it’s a bit more like a lilac or maybe a wisteria. It lacks the redness you’d expect in a mauve or the blue tones you’d see in a violet. There are many shades of purple, but this one is what Apple went with and I like it. It’s unmistakable even at a distance, whereas the light green iPhone 12 models could be mistaken for off-white in certain light. I am also glad it doesn’t have a fancy name. It’s just ‘purple’.”
4. iPhone 12 vs iPhone 11 Design
Thanks to the new makeover, the iPhone 12 line now has flatter sides as compared to the iPhone 11’s rounded design. It also helps that the flatter edges make the retro-modern aluminium frame looks smarter and more appealing.
One of the highlights for iPhone 12 models would be the Ceramic Shield display, which is the biggest design change. Since promising 4x the drop performance, many have vouched that the iPhone 12 drop tests are very promising.
5. Price range and more
iPhone 12 starts at RM 3899, while the iPhone 12 mini starts at RM 3399. Customers can also complement their iPhone with new spring colours coming to MagSafe accessories including MagSafe leather case (RM 269) or leather sleeve (RM 549) in Deep Violet, silicone case (RM 219) in Capri Blue, Pistachio, Cantaloupe, or Amethyst, or leather wallet in Arizona (RM 269).
This also the only iPhone where you don’t need to update to iOS 14.5. It comes ready-installed.
