The Covid-19 virus has put many of us at risk, but none more so than our medical staff. Aptly named the frontliners, they are the one who face the virus everyday. However, their risk of contracting the virus is no lower than ours.
Mugilarasi a/p Perumal was a frontline nurse who worked in the NICU of the Sungai Buloh Hospital. She passed away on 5th June in Ampang Hospital after contracting the virus. She was only 26.
According to China Press, Mugilarasi’s sister shared that the 26-year-old was a kind-hearted and diligent person. They grew up in Batu Gajah, Perak, where she was the youngest of five siblings. While her family mourned her passing, they also had to contend with rumours and false news being spread about the cause of her death.
On 6th June, videos about Mugilarasi’s passing were circulated on social media. The videos showed the family mourning as they watched medical staff place her body in a coffin before it was cremated. The videos showing the intimate scene has since been reported to the police. “This is very sensitive to our family,” Mugilarasi’s sister said. “Please understand our feelings and please report or remove the relevant videos.”
Her sister stated that the rumours and fakes news about the cause of Mugilarasi’s death have broken her family’s heart. She begged the public to not spread the rumours. “This is really heartbreaking,” she said. “(My sister) has a beautiful soul. Please pray for her so that her soul can rest in peace.”
According to her obituary, Mugilarasi passed away due to illness at Ampang Hospital on 5th June. Her body was taken to the Cheras cremation site the following morning and she was cremated at noon.
We give our condolences to the family and hope they will be able to mourn her passing in peace.
