Bakery From PJ Tells Racist Customer: “We Would Be Happy To Lose You As A Customer.”

Thirty One Fine Bakes is taking a firm stand against racism. The online-based bakery from Petaling Jaya uploaded several screenshot messages on its social media yesterday.

In the Whatsapp message exchange, a customer had the audacity to question the ethnicity of those working at Thirty One Fine Bakes, particularly the owner.

When the bakery responded that “we are a multiracial company”, the individual bluntly replied that they prefer not to purchase anything produced by people from a certain ethnicity and race. Instead of holding back, the bakery told the person off.

Racism and discrimination are deep-rooted diseases of this country, and we work to ensure there is no space for that in this company and to call it out when we see it. This company is a space for individuals to grow personally and professionally, without any prejudice. Because of your disgusting remarks, we are not sorry to say that we would be happy to lose you as a customer. All the best,” Thirty One Fine Bakes replied.

When contacted, the owner revealed that this isn’t the first time they have received racist questions. “It was very upsetting to be asked such a question. There were some who question the need to give attention by posting it. But I felt it is necessary. If we don’t speak out against this, we are encouraging such behaviour,” she told The Star.

To quote Bernard Cheah, “let’s bake the world a better place.”
