Although this looks unbelievable, a woolly rhino absolutely well-preserved was recently discovered in the melting permafrost in Siberia. The Yakutia region has gained great popularity for its temperatures that are exceptionally low. The extinct Ice Age species is considered the best-preserved woolly rhino discovered there.
By studying this woolly rhino, we can arrive at a number of conclusions. The sex of the rhino is yet to be discovered, based on the initial analysis. The rhino has died when it was 3-4 years old. Most probably, the reason for this rhino’s death was drowning in the summer. According to the studies, this early rhino was alive around 20,000 to 50,000 years ago.

As a result of being frozen, the fur and the internal organs of the rhino have been perfectly preserved. Thanks to this, a much clearer idea about the lifestyle and appearance of the animal can be derived. A horn, teeth, intestinal parts, lumps of fat, and fur that’s hazel-colored are some of the components included in the frigid carcass. The public will be able to learn more about this woolly rhino after the formation of the ice roads. After that, the carcass will be delivered to the capital city of Yakutsk, where scientists will conduct further studies on the carcass. The Mammoth Museum is also situated in Yakutsk.

Due to the change of climate, a fascinating time capsule below the ground’s surface is found in Siberia, during the summer. This woolly rhino was discovered in August 2020. However, it’s not the first time that such an incredible discovery was made in Yakutia. In 2014, another woolly rhino was found close to this new one’s location. She is named Sasha and is the world’s only baby woolly rhino.
