The right to have a choice — a heavily debatable topic that was further amplified during the pandemic and global vaccination process. With some citing their right to choose what goes into their body, others chided this statement by stating that giving the right to choose the vaccine would only result in a shortage of the vaccine that is higher in demand. This issue, sadly, happens in Malaysia too with a large number of people opting for the Pfizer vaccines.
The same went for actress and host, Ifa Raziah who deliberately cancelled her vaccination appointment just because she didn’t receive the Pfizer vaccine. According to a video that went viral recently, Ifa was seen cancelling her vaccination appointment at the last minute. Following the video, many netizens were enraged with her behaviour with some calling her ‘demanding’, despite a large number of citizens having difficulties receiving vaccination appointments.
However, Ifa refuted those claims and said her cancellation was a result of confusion and a misunderstanding at her vaccination appointment centre in the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).
“I have no choice but to cancel my vaccination appointment today because I didn’t get the Pfizer jab at MITEC. It’s not because I don’t want to take the vaccine,” she wrote.
In addition to this, she cleared the air regarding this matter, via an Instagram post. She clarified that she didn’t have any intention to cancel her appointment in the first place. She only wanted the Pfizer vaccine because it might be the safest option for herself due to her ongoing health issues.
She said, “It’s our right to receive or reject the vaccination given by the government via the MySejahtera application. As far I know, if it’s at MITEC, the vaccine given would be Pfizer. But things took a turn when I was scheduled to be given Sinovac.”
Nevertheless, her actions have definitely angered netizens to a great extent with most of them giving examples of their elderly parents, taking the Sinovac vaccine and still being in good health. Let’s just hope no one repeats Ifa’s actions and instead, take the vaccine provided at the vaccination centre. Remember! The best vaccine is the one that’s available to you!
