Microsoft’s new 3D emoji include Clippy’s Ressurection In Office

Microsoft has an exciting upcoming plan: to bring Clippy, its popular character, back to life as an emoji in Office. Microsoft successfully conducted a campaign to get some likes on Twitter and Instagram. As a result, the paperclip emoji that can be seen in Office, Windows, Microsoft Teams, and other Microsoft 365 products will be replaced by Clippy. This is part of a bigger update where Microsoft is planning to launch 1,800 emojis in Microsoft 365. Also, it’ll be updated with 3D designs as well.

However, among all these emojis, Clippy definitely owns the spotlight. The 3D emoji has been redesigned to endow it with more personality. Claire Anderson, the official “Emoji-ologist” at Microsoft, states that Clippy was part of her childhood and looks like a ‘fun little Easter egg’ in an interview with The Verge. She explains that it’s really delightful when placing the paperclip in a Microsoft product. However, it brings also brings a strange sense of nostalgia. This plain and boring paperclip will soon be replaced by Clippy, a fun-looking emoji with Groucho eyebrows.

This new set of emojis which will soon show up across Windows and elsewhere will be very different from the previous, as they will move from 2D to 3D. They will possess bright and saturated colors and most of the emojis will be animated. The 3D element will not only make them pop but will also make them look more modern-looking.

Currently, emojis play a big part in online communications. They give life and add emotions to otherwise lifeless computer-based interactions. According to Anderson, emojis are not only a significant tool for communication but are also extensions of our own humanity.
