Phase 1 SOP Updates: All Sections Of Stores Can Operate

The implementation of the recent Full Movement Control Order (FMCO) and Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in certain areas have definitely impacted businesses and sectors deemed as non-essential. These non-essential sectors were mainly departmental stores and areas in malls, used purely for entertainment purposes.

However, recently, according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) listed on the Malaysian National Security Council’s (MKN) website, there has been an update on Phase 1’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

According to the website, areas and states under Phase 1 of the Pelan Pemulihan Negara (PPN) can now operate in all sections of the departmental stores, hypermarkets and supermarkets. Previously, only the food and beverages (F&B) and necessary supplies section at the areas aforementioned were allowed to open.

As a result of this announcement, several departmental stores in the nation’s city centre have commenced their operations from today onwards. This includes Isetan Kuala Lumpur, The Gardens Mall, Pop-In, The Japan Store and SOGO KL. These malls have released their new operating hours on their respective social media pages.

This might seem like some good news in the midst of the rising number of Covid-19 cases. However, this does not apply to the areas with the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO). To those living in areas without the EMCO, please maintain social distancing and extra vigilance when paying a visit to those malls.
