Brunei Darussalam may be a small nation located on the island of Borneo, but did you know that its royal family members is one of the wealthiest there is?
For the uninitiated, the Brunei Sultan, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, has a net worth of a whopping US$20 million (~RM84 million). It’s no secret that his sons – Prince Abdul Mateen and Prince Abdul Malik – along with their 10 other siblings have always been coveted by the public.
Here’s a look inside the royal princes’ lavish life:
1. Prince Mateen’s love for exotic pets
For the average Joe, one would normally opt for cats or dogs as a fluffy companion, but not the royalty hunk. Prince Mateen owns exotic white tiger cubs and ocelots, and occasionally shares photos of his beloved companions on his social media. Additionally, Prince Mateen is also known for his love for horses.
2. Prince Malik’s lavish wedding
Prince Malik tied the knot in a wedding ceremony that made the headlines all over the globe. He got married to then-22-year-old Dayangku Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah Pengiran Haji Bolkiah, and their wedding was nothing short of magnificent! The event took place over the course of 10 days and has been referred to as one of the “Most Lavish Weddings Of The Planet”.
It was attended by more than 6,000 guests – including royal families from around the world, foreign diplomats as well as political figures. From the bridal bouquet to the newly-wedded couple’s outfits, and even the thrones placed inside the ceremonial room were embellished with pure gold, diamonds and precious stones decorations.
3. The royal family’s insane collection of luxurious cars
It’s estimated that the Brunei royal family has more than 7,000 cars with a total value of an astonishing $5 billion (~RM21 billion)! Every year, the Sultan has the luxury of getting the latest and expensive automobiles sent to him upon their release. Some of their insane collections include 550 Mercedes Benzes, 450 Ferraris, and 6 custom-made Bentley Dominators which costs at $4.6 million (~RM19 million) per unit!
4. Prince Mateen’s private jets
While Prince Mateen never gets tired of taking one of the 7,000 cars for a drive, there are in fact other means of transportation that the young royal figure could use, and this include a Boeing 747 private jet purchased by his father worth $120 million (~RM507 million). Dubbed as “The Flying Palace”, they customised the entire of the jet’s interior to include a living room and also a bedroom that are covered with pure gold from the top to bottom.
On top of that, the prince also owns two Airbus A340s and a 767 next to his name. For the uninitiated, Prince Mateen is also a licensed pilot, and it’s safe to say that he takes pride in the fact. He once admitted that there were a few challenges in learning how to fly an aircraft but he has since gotten the hang of it.
5. Private residence
The Istana Nurul Iman palace, which is the official residence of the Brunei royal family (and also where the princes grew up), currently holds the title for being the largest residential palace in the world – with 1,788 rooms in addition to 257 bathrooms. It was reported that it costs $1.3 billion (~RM5.5 billion) to build the palace. Measuring over 2.2 million square feet, the interior design of the palace is decorated with gold and diamond embellishments.
Amongst the 1,788 rooms, the palace has five massive swimming pools, a banquet hall that can accommodate up to 5,000 guests at once, a mosque with a capacity of 50,000 people, and an air-conditioned stable for 200 polo horses.
6. Prince Mateen’s love for travelling
If you’ve been keeping up with Prince Mateen’s life on Instagram, you’d probably notice that he enjoys travelling a lot. He has visited various exotic places around the world and often shared snaps of his exciting travels with his followers online.
7. Prince Mateen’s wardrobe
Being a royal figure that’s worth billion of dollars sure comes with a lot of benefits. One of the advantages include access to the finest of outfits. As seen in some of the pictures uploaded on his socials, Prince Mateen’s wardrobe is filled with lavish designer brands. Not only that, Prince Mateen has a taste for expensive watches. Among his collection is a Rolex Daytona 11650 which is priced at $26,000 (~RM109k)! Another masterpiece that he has been seen donning is the 18-carat white gold Patek Philippe Nautilus Perpetual Calendar, which is said to be valued at around $124,000 (~RM524k).
