In conjunction with the launch of Eucerin Spotless Brightening, a virtual launch event was held on Facebook Live where the spotlight was on former Miss Malaysia Universe Deborah Henry. Hosted by Megan Tan, the session also welcomed dermatologist Dr. Kc Loh to discuss how do dark spots form and ways to prevent them.
Throughout the 45-minute session, we got to hear how the Eucerin Spotless Brightening Booster Serum has helped the beauty queen in her everyday life and why this skincare product is quite affective and essential for everyone out there.
Here’s what went down:
Megan: Deborah, what have you been up to lately?
Deborah: I have been keeping up with my humanitarian work, working with refugees. Especially in the current climate and situation, it gets more important than ever.
Megan: That’s very admirable! I hope you have made some headway on that front.
Deborah: It will take time to see results but that is the nature of humanitarian work.
Dr KC: Before this, you must have spent some time under the sun?
Deborah: Yes, I do. A lot of my work is outdoors and as I spend more time outdoors, I developed dark spots because of overexposure and such.
Megan: Doctor, what do you think?
Dr KC: In Deborah’s case, what she went through is what we call hyperpigmentation. But to understand that we need to first understand melanin. Melanin is the natural pigment that gives our skin, hair and eyes their colour. There are a few factors that trigger an increase in melanin production but the main ones are sun exposure, hormonal influences and can be genetic as well. Some people are genetically more prone to have dark spots. Sun exposure is the number one cause of hyperpigmentation because sunlight is what triggers melanin production in the first place. So like Deborah, if you’re exposed to the sun a lot, then you will go through hyperpigmentation and in turn, become dark spots.
Megan: That’s really interesting and good to know.
Dr KC: With the right exposure, it can give an evenly darkened complexion, like a suntan. But if excessive, melanin production cells become overly active and form pigment spots.
Deborah: I guess that’s what happened to me because of the long exposure to the sun to the point I realized that something needed to be done. Of course, my humanitarian work continues but I also wanted to do something about it.
Megan: How did you overcome? Must have been stressful for you.
Deborah: It was difficult but I found Eucerin Spotless Brightening Booster Serum. I must say it’s never been better!
Megan: For those of you who may not know, the booster serum is new and improved version from the previous one. Before this, it was the dual chamber and now Eucerin has launched with a mono-chamber one. The mono-chamber now combines two active agents in a single chamber delivery in precise right amounts.
Deborah: I really like how it’s very convenient to use. On top of that the new packaging is more sustainable. Something that I’m more particular about these days.
Megan: Me too! Don’t worry guys, if efficacy is the same as the previous two-chamber version. It’s clinically proven that it is suitable for all skin types.
Deborah: Plus, I really like that the texture of the ultralight skin-feel. It’s not sticky and I feel that my skin absorbs it quickly too!
Megan: I’m really glad to hear that. Take it from Deborah, ladies. Dr KC, it says here that the Eucerin Spotless Brightening Booster Serum has a special ingredient called Thiamidol. What can you share about this?
Dr KC: We know that the formation of melanin causes hyperpigmentation right? Thiamidol is an effective anti hyperpigmentation ingredient. More and more studies show that. Some studies also showed that it is more effective compared to retinol, kojic acid and arbutin. Thiamidol can counteract and reverse hyperpigmentation. It inhibits melanin production.
Deborah: Yes. I think Eucerin has done a great job at this because I learnt that they invested 10 years of research. Eucerin tested more than 50,000 ingredients & Thiamidol emerged as the winning agent. Thiamidol has proven itself over many years of life-changing efficacy. This makes me feel safe and confident to use it!
Dr KC: Thiamidol is also a gentle ingredient. From what we know how the published clinical study, the result showed skin effects after two weeks.
Megan: I see here as well that the booster serum has a pro-brightening. This helps to escalate protection on skin cell damage and prevents dark spots from coming back.
Deborah: Yea this is important too. Because for me, I’ll continue to be exposed to sun due to work. So having to not worry about dark spots and them coming back lifts a huge burden off me.
Dr KC: Prevention is better than cure. It’s best we take necessary steps to prevent dark spots.
Megan: Plus, this product gives us really powerful results without the need for laser treatment. This makes derma skin solutions so accessible to all of us!
Deborah: Yes! There’s the Day Care, Night Care and Spot Corrector as well. So you see the Day Care is actually SPF30 so it’s quite good for preventing dark spots as you might imagine.
Dr KC: You’re right Deborah. We know that the sun’s absorption into the skin can cause many ill-effects. Apart from dark spots and uneven skin tone, we may experience breakdown of cellular collagen so that’s what makes our skin look saggy and wrinkled. In worst cases, DNA damage that causes skin cancer. So we must block as much radiation as possible with a great product that has an appropriate SPF! Skin areas with hyperpigmentation should always be protected from sunlight.
Megan: Is SPF30 enough?
Dr KC: Yes. We must use at least SPF30 that can prevent 97% of the sun’s radiation from penetrating the skin.
Megan: Deborah, do you mind sharing how your Eucerin skincare routine looks like?
Deborah: I cannot go without the booster serum so I take it everywhere I go. I use the booster serum and day care daily. The booster serum and daycare works very well together. One to remove dark spots, one to prevent. I apply the booster serum one more at night.
Additional info:
Q1: Do I really need to use it daily?
A: Yes, otherwise, those darks spots you work so hard to remove will reappear if there’s not enough care. It’s best to use daily and if possible, pair it with the Day Care!
Q2: How is the mono-chamber more sustainable?
A: Because it is more recyclable than the previous two-chamber version. The new mono chamber container is recyclable.
Q3: Can I just apply the Booster Serum to specific areas?
A: It’s best to apply it to the entire face. For more targeted application, you may want to try the Spot Corrector because you can target specific areas. If your dark spots are more widespread, then applying evenly to the whole face would be good. Don’t forget to prevent them from coming back too.
