YouTuber John Li Of Hang TV Accused Of Using Wife’s Body As Thirst Trap For Views

Nguyen Thu Hang met the love of her life John Li when she went to Taiwan to study. The two soon became YouTubers and created their channel “Hang TV – Vietnam and Taiwan (Hang TV – 越南夯台灣)” which shows off both their cultures. They hoped to break stereotypes and prejudices between the two groups.

The happily married couple rose to fame quickly, thanks to their channel and Hang’s hosting of Taiwan’s National Day ceremony in 2018. However, their most recent video seems to have sparked some controversy. Netizens accused John of using his wife’s bikini figure to attract views during a hot springs video!

On 25th December 2021, Hang TV uploaded a video for Christmas day. Apparently they had visited a hot spring hotel in Miaoli, Taiwan and hoped to share their experience with their viewers. From their hotel room, to spending time in the hot springs, to visiting the local area— the couple and their 4-month old baby clearly had an amazing time! Hang herself could visibly be seen enjoying the hot springs in a bikini and flouting her amazing figure.

Although the video garnered plenty of likes and views, apparently some weren’t happy with its content. More specifically, Hang’s bikini-clad figure. One comment in particular read: “It’s difficult to understand why (Hang’s) husband would expose his wife’s body so much to others. I hope it’s not to ask for clicks.” To everyone’s delight, John’s calm and rational response knocked the critic out of the park.

From the beginning of his response till the end, John made it clear that he was in full support of his wife. “My wife has full autonomy on how (she presents) herself, and I have no right to tell her what to do,” he stated. “At most I might advise her if I feel (her clothes are) unsuitable for the occasion. But now it’s at the hot spring and swimming pool, so the occasion is reasonable.

He added that Hang had received compliments while wearing her bikini and it had boosted her confidence which also made John happy. “The film was co-created by both of us, and is released after each other’s review. Logically (the video) is not (for) me to expose my wife, it is (for) me to help her show herself,” he said. John made it clear that Hang’s appearance in the bikini was not to thirst-trap. After all, their channel was not intended for such things.

Being in shape is one of my wife’s many advantages, and like many of her other strengths, it’s a subject of my video that I will take turns to show,” he wrote. He added that their videos were intended to encourage recognition of Vietnamese folks in Taiwan.

Netizens were pleased with how John handled the matter. Additionally, he did so without putting down his wife at all. However, the issue did unintentionally revive Hang’s old nickname, “Taiwanese Chou Tzu-yu”. Apparently many think she resembles the Taiwanese member from the K-pop group Twice. The couple have made it clear that Hang is not comfortable with the ‘nickname’ as she would much rather be known as herself.

Their relationship is certainly one many wish they could have! After all, that is what a husband-and-wife relationship should be, right? Uplifting and being each other’s number one supporter. Kudos to John for his response and congrats to Hang for being blessed with such a good husband!
