There is a lot of mystery, adventure, and curiosity linked to the name of the Orient Express. This is because it has been used in literature, film, and music in a lot of famous ways. In 1883, the Orient Express began as a long-distance passenger train service. Now, it is best known for Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” and the scenes with James Bond in From Russia With Love. CIWL, an international hotel, and travel logistics group, made the train. The original route took it from Paris, Gare de l’Est to Giurgiu, Romania, by way of Munich and Vienna. Because of this, the Orient Express has had many different routes and trains since it was first built in the 1800s.

Photographer Andre Joosse of Urbex nl came across an abandoned train in Belgium during one of his urban explorations. He took pictures of the eerie and haunting carriages and locomotives that looked like they were rusting away. Because of this, Joosse says they were put there by the Belgian national rail company. They wanted to keep them for a museum. This is because the city wants to build a parking lot on this land. The trains have to move to another place. But as long as there isn’t a place for the museum, the trains keep getting worse and worse.

Skeletons

The skeletons of the train are known in the area as “the Orient Express,” and the plush carriages and fine woodwork that still remain must have made for a once-grand trip. It was a show of comfort and luxury for its time when traveling was still rough and risky. There’s a good chance that the train is from Belgium, but where it came from is still unknown.

It’s possible to take a ride on the Orient Express if you still have an appreciation for grandeur and history. The Venice-Simplon Orient Express is a private venture by the leisure company Belmond that lets people “step aboard and experience truly elegant travel, wrapped in timeless romance.”
