Two years ago, Malaysia closed its borders as an attempt to halt the spread of Covid-19 but today (Friday, 1st April) is finally the day that our borders reopen! Malaysians from all over the world will get to come home after being separated from loved ones for so long.
Everyone has been patiently waiting for this day to come ever since the announcement was made. Just last night before midnight, at the Malaysia-Singapore border, many Malaysians gathered as they waited for the reopening of the Johor Causeway.

In the video shared on TikTok by @_wan100, we can see so many people walking from the Singapore Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex towards Malaysia as soon as the borders reopened. Cheers can be heard all around and we can see some of them even jumping with joy that they finally get to go home.
It was also reported that once they arrived in great fanfare at the R&F Mall nearby the Johor Causeway, shouts of “welcome back to Malaysia” could be heard from those gathered there, with fireworks being let off in the backdrop.
The Johor Causeway and Linkedua Highway was very quiet and empty for the past 2 years but since last night, it’s been livelier than ever now with the reopening of the country’s borders starting today. In the video below, we can even see an elderly man excitedly running towards Malaysia with the one recording the video following him.
