People tend to associate MsPuiyi (Siew Pui Yi) with being sexy and confident. It mostly comes down to the way she acts, carries herself and of course, the clothes she (doesn’t) wear. However, she recently got in trouble for inappropriately wearing Vietnam’s cultural costume, the Ao Dai.
Her rather revealing photos had Vietnamese netizens flocking to her comments sections. Many requested MsPuiyi to remove the photos out of respect for their culture. To some’s surprise, she did as asked, and even gave an apology.
Two days after posting the photos, MsPuiyi responded to the issue yesterday (6th April). The influencer and YouTuber posted a long apology in Vietnamese, English and Chinese. “(On) my recent travel to Vietnam, there was a posting of mine that truly upset the people,” she stated. “I deeply and sincerely apologise for my actions/content and the disrespect to the traditional culture of Vietnam, to which I have now taken down.”
She explained she had read through the comments to better understand their views. “I have learned from (your) comments, (and) I will remember them, thank you for your advice,” MsPuiyi stated. The influencer added that she loves Vietnam very much and hopes to visit again when she can. However, this time she will be taking a different approach to getting her content! “I apologise once again, and will be more sensitive to the local cultures all over the world,” MsPuiyi finished.
Netizens have graciously accepted her apology in the comments. Several stated they just hoped she would be respectful towards the different cultures. As one aptly said, “Whenever you put on the costume of any country (not only our country) you should learn about the culture and style, the story of that costume.” Another sweetly stated, “We accept your apology and always welcome you to VN.” However, there were those who attempted to take advantage of the situation by asking for ‘exclusive footage’ as an apology.
As promised, MsPuiyi has removed the photos, both from Facebook and Instagram. The influencer is still keeping her other photos from Vietnam but none contain the Ao Dai. Well, we hope she continues to enjoy the rest of her trip in Vietnam!
