Concert Review: Local & International Acts Brought The House Down At Good Vibes!

A lot has been said about Good Vibes Festival 2023 but this review is dedicated to everything that happened before that incident. We got the chance to check out what was in store for Day 1 and it was filled with a lot of surprises (if you know what we mean)! Music lovers gathered at the main entrance as early as 2pm for the chance to be one of the first people in the front row of the main stage.

Throughout the whole day, fans were treated to amazing performances by their favourite local and international artists as well as fun activities around the festival but that’s not all! Before we get into more details about that, let’s recall some of the highlights of Day 1:

Starting off the festival on the Blue Stage, we had our very own local band Resort! Despite a few tech hiccups at the start, the band kept on going for the fans playing songs like “Fix Everything” and “Terrible Conversations”. Energy got even more insane as soon as the speakers were back on. Performing at the festival for the first time, they made sure that the crowd will remember who they are. Heading over to the Red stage we had Mr. International himself, Lullaboy! The Singaporean-Indonesian singer got the crowd going wild by performing hits like “Van Gogh” and “Shortcut to Heaven”. He even slowed things down with “Personal” on the guitar before ending his set with “Someone Like You”.

After what happened at last year’s festival Leaism made her return with a full set and gave her all for the fan (with no tech issues 😉 this time)! She got everyone dancing along to songs like “Darkside”, and “In Lovest”, the singer-songwriter’s amazing vocal performance and stage presence left us wanting more and more. The local star got to properly end her set with the full version of the fan-favourite, “Murka Jiwa”. Lunadira then took the red stage where she got everyone, including herself, feeling emotional when she sang songs like, “Overthinking” and “Hoodie”.

Obviously, it wasn’t all sad songs cause the singer definitely brought the house down when she poured her heart out during her last (soon-to-be-released) song “I’ll Be Alright, Right?”. Airlifts rocked the blue stage with hits like “Born July”, “Princess Bubblegum” and even “Ghost” with guest rapper GARD! The singer’s set wouldn’t be complete if he didn’t end his set with “Honest” and “Appreciate” After a 1-hour break, Dermot Kennedy took the red stage and slowed things down by performing multiple ballads like “One Life”, “Kiss Me”, and “Innocence & Sadness” before the next act NXWorries got the ladies dancing on their feet (and on stage) with songs like “Lyk Dis”, “Droogs”, and “Daydreaming”.

The night was still young when American singer-songwriter Sabrina Carpenter, the lady of the hour that everyone has been waiting for, finally took the Red stage to perform some of her biggest hits starting with “Read Your Mind”. The blonde singer treated the audience with songs like “Opposite”, and “Sue Me” before taking us back in time by performing a cover of ABBA’s 1980 hit song “Lay All Your Love On Me”. Just when you thought it was over, the 24-year-old surprised fans with one last song “Nonsense” where she even gave a shoutout to Kuala Lumpur in the lyrics.

Moving over to the Blue stage one last time, we had Daniel Caesar going all solo for his set with no band, dancers, or extravagant props. Wowing the crowd with just his vocals and mesmerising stage presence, the Canadian artist gave us a performance we’ll never forget with songs like, “Let Me Go”, “Valentina” and “Always”.

Unfortunately, the rest of the night had to be cut short. But that aside, we were really impressed at how Good Vibes Festival 2023 stepped up their game this time around! Check out our IG reel below:
