Hyatt House Kuala Lumpur Review: Relaxing Staycation, Easy Access To Dining & Leisure Activities

Mention Mont Kiara and these few things will likely come to mind – an expat-oriented suburb, upper-class residential area, and a large international community. There’s really no need to leave when everything is within walking distance. You’ve got 163 Retail Park and 1 Mont Kiara in the heart of the town, plus Publika Shopping Gallery and Solaris Mont Kiara are only a short drive away.

Perhaps this is what makes Mont Kiara the “it” address of Kuala Lumpur, and an ideal place for a relaxing staycation when you want a change of scenery from the city life. Presenting you: Hyatt House Kuala Lumpur, Mont Kiara – a home away from home.

We recently checked into a spacious Two Bedroom Suite that comes with 2 large double beds and a sofa bed in the separate 75sqm living room. While we’re used to spending our holiday in a hotel, our first experience at this Hyatt House-branded property (it’s also the first Hyatt House in Asia Pacific) was actually quite enjoyable.

The suite not only came with a full-size refrigerator (with a freezer) and a microwave oven, it also had a washing machine. We can definitely see the appeal of this property especially to long term expats/ business travellers and families travelling with children. The fully-equipped kitchen makes it convenient for hotel guests who want to prepare their own meals. The 3-zone induction hob is also a life saver for those who want to whip up a meal in a jiffy.

Open the drawer and you’ll find crockeries, pots and pans, as well as a full set of cutlery. Even if you’re not planning to cook, the availability of proper cutleries meant that we could also enjoy our tapao meals without any fuss. Hyatt House Kuala Lumpur, Mont Kiara also provides freeze-dried coffee sachets and Lipton tea bags. But if that’s too basic for you, there’s a Starbucks outlet downstairs or you can always walk to the nearby cafes, in addition to the variety of restaurants in the vicinity.

If you’re reluctant to head out, the hotel houses the H Bar and a restaurant named Gallery Kitchen. Here, guests can enjoy complimentary breakfast with a selection of hot and cold food such as sushi, salad, yogurt, cold meat, pastries, rice, noodles, eggs and toast, plus a variety of fruits. If you’re dropping by for lunch, the ala carte menu offers mostly Asian food choices like seafood tom yam, chicken curry rice, nasi goreng istimewa, and chicken rendang burger.

As the name suggests, Hyatt House appeals to different groups of people. While there’s a flat-screen TV in the living room, there was another TV in the bedroom. This allows children to enjoy their cartoon shows in the living room, while parents can have their own mommy and daddy time watching other programmes in peace without having to share the TV.

If you’re staying for an extended duration and have time to spare, feel free to head up to level 37 and take a dip at the sky pool. There’s also a games room on the same floor if you’re up for a session of snooker and other activities. Next to it is the fitness centre where you’ll find the standard gym equipment (e.g: treadmills, dumbbells, and other machines for body training) to work up a sweat.

For fitness enthusiasts looking for something more curated, this neighborhood has a variety of fun exercise activities you can check out at Urban Spring Pilates, TRIBE Boxing Studio and FLYPROJECT. Besides work out outlets, golfers can spend time at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, while skating lovers can visit the Blue Ice Skating Rink (which is situated next to Velvet Cinemas by GSC – Mont Kiara’s only cinema outlet).

When it comes to comfort, the suite’s living room is pretty cozy. You can either opt to do your work at the small desk at the sofa or on the white dining table. The bedroom comes with a plush king-sized Hyatt Grand Bed and wardrobe that includes a safety box for your essentials and an iron. You’ll also find a digital clock, a phone, USB charging port for your mobile phone. The suite that we stayed in had a small balcony but since we were only there for a night, there was no need to unlock the balcony door.

While Mont Kiara lacks the access to public commute, it bodes well with travellers who want a family-friendly environment and also guests who are staying for an extended period of time.
