All The Times Bebe Rexha Has Been Mistreated In The Music Industry

Leave Bebe alone! Our girl has gone through way too much to be constantly mistreated in the industry that she has contributed to with most of her songs becoming iconic pop songs. The singer is undeniably talented however the pop star unfortunately has been mistreated badly by her industry and in some cases even her fans.

It comes as a shock that this pop icon has faced multiple instances of mistreatment, so much so that a thread is able to form itself on Twitter fully containing the public figures’ mistreatments. Let’s go through the hardship that our girl Bebe Rexha has gone through.

1. Not credited for her work

Our pop icon, Bebe Rexha, has faced challenges since the start of her career, particularly with her uncredited vocals in “The Monster” by Eminem and Rihanna. In an interview, Bebe explained that her label asked her to provide background vocals for the song, but the 29-year-old singer pleaded with them not to release it.

She anticipated that as she grew her brand, people would say, “You sound like Rihanna.” Despite her objections, the label proceeded, and Bebe’s vocals are clearly heard in the music video. However, in 2020, the singer joined rapper Eminem on stage and performed the song alongside the 51-year-old rapper, finally receiving the recognition she deserved.

A similar situation occurred with “Hey Mama” by David Guetta featuring Nicki Minaj. The pop star was asked to work on the song with the DJ, contributing her vocals. When she inquired about receiving credit, she was told there were “too many names for radio,” which the then-naive young star believed. To make matters worse, the music video was filmed without her knowledge. When she confronted them, they excused it by saying the filming was “super private.”

She truly deserves way better. The industry owes her an apology.😭🫶🏻

2. Mistreatment from her own label

Once Bebe Rexha’s name and brand grew, and her music began achieving hits with her name on it, the mistreatment unfortunately did not cease. Despite her success, the “I’m Good” singer faced further mistreatment, primarily from her own label, as many cases from the thread indicate. For instance, her collaboration with G-Eazy, which gave the rapper his first hit song, was performed with Britney Spears at the VMAs without notifying Bebe, the original singer.

Her label not only failed to promote her songs but also made her pay for her own music videos and props, which is astonishing considering the star has won multiple awards. The betrayal extended beyond her label to her previous manager, Adam Mersel. Though the full story remains unknown, Bebe hinted at the betrayal in an unreleased song, adding the line, “Adam did me wrong.”

3. Sexism in the industry

The “In The Name of Love” singer like many other female artists has faced sexism in the music industry, it’s inevitable. In 2019, the pop star opened up on social media about the sexism and ageism she has faced from a male music executive. The comment stated that she (29 years old at the time) was “Too old” to be posting sexual pictures online and that her brand was “confusing” because she’s a songwriter who posts sexy pictures online.

Our girl, grown and educated, dismissed these comments, celebrating her age and expressing frustration with the double standard where ageing women are called “hags” while men are considered “sexy.” The Grammy winner declared she would not hide her age or change her music to appear younger. She emphasised that she is wiser, stronger, and a better lover than she was before. In that same statement mentioned body shaming in the industry with her own designers claiming she was “too big” for her 2019 Grammy Awards dress.
