As we all know, Malaysian-born singer Namewee is no stranger to controversy. Previously, the 41-year-old received a lot of heat from the public for faking his death to promote a song. Most recently, he spoke up about the sudden cancellation of his tour – and how he’s receiving threats for it.

Earlier this week, the singer, whose full name is Wee Meng Chee (黄明志), broke his silence about his cancelled world tour. Namewee kick-started the tour with a show in Taipei on 1st April 2023. However, after his first show, organisers cancelled the rest of the tour after they received threats from unnamed groups. After a year of silence, the Taiwan-based performer was finally prepared to address the matter and planned to hold a press conference in Taiwan a few days ago.

However, just hours before the press conference, Namewee shared that he had to cancel the press conference after receiving threats from unnamed “forces”. He also apologised to the public and said he wouldn’t be able to explain about his cancelled show. Fans then voiced concern over the mention of threats – but Namewee’s next move did little to calm the situation.

Following the slew of events, the entertainer posted a black image on his social media without any caption. Given the recent news, many fans can’t help but question what is happening to the celeb. Many wondered if the cryptic post was a silent call for help or a sign of protest against those trying to silence the controversial public figure. However, hours after posting the black screen image, the hip-hop artist shared about his recent visit to a local high school.
