(Video) Durian Kimchi’s Ryzal Ibrahim Criticised For Sexualising Watermelons

Local influencer Ryzal Ibrahim is no stranger to controversy. The one-half of the internet couple Durian Kimchi has his fair share of criticism for his previous actions and remarks – and it seems netizens have found yet another instance of his controversial behaviour.

Recently, Ryzal’s wife, Maryam Younarae, shared a video on her social media, giving tips on how to pick out a good watermelon when shopping for the fruit. The video starts with Maryam talking to Ryzal behind the camera and sharing how to pick a sweeter fruit. In the video, Maryam shared that watermelons with a smaller blossom end are sweeter than ones with a larger end. She also pointed out two watermelons with different blossom end sizes for visualisation.

However, Ryzal then joked about the blossom ends, pointing to the two watermelons and saying, “This (the larger end) is like Maryam’s and this (the smaller end) is like Rina’s (his daughter).” It’s believed that the comment had an inappropriate connotation, given that Maryam referred to the blossom ends as “butthole” in Korean. Upon hearing her husband’s comment, Maryam reacted with distaste but quickly carried on with the video.

Netizens also reacted negatively to Ryzal’s comment, criticising him for his distasteful jokes. Many slammed him, calling him gross for sexualising fruits and making inappropriate comments about his wife. Many also showed anger over him making the same inappropriate comments about his young daughter. On the other hand, some defended Maryam, saying her video and tips were great until her husband’s unnecessary remarks.

Some also argued that Ryzal would most likely apologise for his comments after getting criticised but won’t have actual remorse, showing he doesn’t learn from his past mistakes. Nevertheless, what are your thoughts on the video?
