James Earl Jones, Lee Hoi Sang & Raja Petra: 3 Legends Who Passed Away This Week

Last month, we lost 7 local and international legends in the entertainment industry. Their work has left an impact and will forever be remembered by adoring fans who have supported them throughout their careers. It’s still early September but sadly, we already mourning 3 icons who have passed away this week.

Their work has touched all our hearts and we offer our deepest condolences to their loved ones. Let’s take this time to remember who they are and the milestones they’ve achieved in their lifetimes:

1. James Earl Jones

In 1977, Jones made his debut as Darth Vader in George Lucas’s space opera blockbuster film, “Star Wars: A New Hope”, cementing him – and his voice – a place in the film industry. He reprised his role in the sequels, “The Empire Strikes Back (1980)” and “Return of the Jedi (1983)”, and also voiced other iconic characters, including Mufasa in “The Lion King.” James passed away at the age of 93 years old on 9th September 2024 at his home in Dutchess County, New York.

2. Lee Hoi Sang (李海生)

Lee Hoi-sang was a Hong Kong martial arts film actor and martial artist, known for his roles in “The 36th Chamber of Shaolin,” “Shaolin Challenges Ninja,” and “The Incredible Kung Fu Master”. He was a master of Wing Chun boxing and also served as a martial arts instructor and an action movie actor, debuting in British Hong Kong starting in his early years. He was a prominent figure in Hong Kong’s film industry for nearly 40 years but has sadly passed away at the age of 83. The news of his death emerged on 10th September, following reports that he succumbed to a bacterial infection linked to skin lesions.

3. Raja Petra Kamarudin

During his lifetime, Raja Petra Kamarudin was an infamous Malaysian political blogger, known for running the Malaysia Today website and publishing a series of controversial commentaries and articles on Malaysian politics. He resided in Manchester, United Kingdom, where he uncovered the secret of corrupt politicians, opening Malaysians’ eyes with evidence. The late nephew of the eleventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia died on 9th September at his residence in the UK. According to his widow, his cause of death was a blood infection that spread to his lungs and liver. Following his death, many Malaysians paid the late blogger, including Malaysia’s prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Despite the sad news, their contribution towards the community and fans will not be forgotten.  Though they are no longer with us, their influence remains, immortalized in the stories they told and the battles they fought. The loss of these three remarkable figures in such a short span reminds us of the fragility of life, yet it also calls us to celebrate the indelible marks they have left on the world. Their legacies, like their lives, will continue to inspire and uplift for years to come.
