(Video) ADOR Refutes NewJeans’ Contract Termination; Girl Group’s Future Remains Bleak

K-pop sensations NewJeans (뉴진스) shocked the industry last night (28th November 2024, Thursday) after announcing their departure from their label ADOR and parent company HYBE. The move was in response to ADOR’s failure to reinstate founder Min Hee Jin’s (민희진) position as CEO.

Earlier on 13th November 2024 (Wednesday), the group announced their plans to terminate their exclusive contracts if their company failed to comply with their demands, which included reinstating Min Hee Jin’s position. Yesterday evening, the quintet, comprising members Hanni (하니), Hyein (혜인), Minji (민지), Danielle (다니엘) and Haerin (해린), held a press conference to explain their group’s position.

During the press conference, the group mentioned they ultimately decided to leave their company because the management was unwilling to make reforms or listen to their requests. The members also called out ADOR and HYBE for failing to protect NewJeans amidst the ongoing feud between the agencies and former executive Min Hee Jin.

NewJeans also addressed the possible penalties for terminating their contract, explaining that they have never violated any terms and thus have no reason to pay. Instead, the group firmly believed that ADOR and HYBE were the ones who violated the contract. As for their current agendas, the members said they would proceed with their previously scheduled activities.

The group also mentioned wanting to keep their group name after departing from ADOR. As the company owns the trademark to NewJeans, the members said they would try to secure the rights to the name. However, news outlets have discussed this matter, explaining that it will be difficult for the members to own the trademark, given their position.

Unfortunately, the issue remains unresolved, and the feud will likely continue. On one end, NewJeans said they have officially left ADOR, but the agency refuted the claims. ADOR further explained that the group’s exclusive contracts remain valid, and the five idols are still under their management.

As of now, we can only wish the young idols the best as they navigate this matter. At the same time, many fans have expressed support for the girls, while others are concerned about their future. What are your thoughts on this?
