Despite their glamorous lives, many stars have faced financial challenges, even announcing bankruptcy as a last resort. Hong Kong actor Vinci Wong (王贤志) is one of those stars, recently confirming reports that he has filed for bankruptcy.
News outlets reported that the 54-year-old filed for bankruptcy in the Hong Kong High Court on 13th December 2024 (Friday). According to court records, a hearing for the bankruptcy petition will take place on 21st January 2025. Following the reports, Vinci shared a post on social media to address the issue, confirming that he filed for bankruptcy. However, as the case entered the legal process, the star said he’d refrain from responding to questions.
In his statement, the television personality said he made the difficult decision to file for bankruptcy after careful consideration and consultation with many parties. While he never shared the reason for his financial troubles, there were reports that a Hong Kong credit firm recently sought to recover over HK$2.93 million (approximately RM1.67 million) from Vinci. After speaking out about the allegations, the star received support from fans and fellow celebrities.
While it’s not impossible for celebrities to file for bankruptcy, many were particularly curious about Vinci’s case, given his background. The public figure reportedly comes from a wealthy family and previously served as the chairman of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. However, the actor did take some financial risks lately, most recently investing millions to produce the gay reality show, “Boyscation Too”, which he also hosted. In addition, the queer star allegedly lost a lot of money after cancelling a fan meeting for the programme.
Unfortunately, until details emerge, the reasons for the Vinci filing for bankruptcy remain bleak. Nevertheless, we wish the star all the best as he navigates this issue.
