Some of you may remember that SHINee (샤이니) leader Onew (온유) was set to visit Malaysia for his first-ever solo fan meet tour in Kuala Lumpur. The event was originally scheduled to take place in July at Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam; however, due to technical issues, it was later moved to Plenary Hall at the KL Convention Centre.
Much to fans’ dismay, the organiser, MND Sports & Event Sdn. Bhd, regretfully announced that the fan meeting had been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. The company informed ticket holders that refunds would be processed starting from 1st August 2024. However, for some reason, many have still not received their money back.
For several months, fans have contacted MND Sports & Event to enquire about the refunds. Recently, a netizen appeared to call out the organiser on Twitter for hosting a private event, insinuating that they could have used the money to process the refunds but chose not to do so. In response, the company DM-ed the user, demanding them remove the post and issue an unconditional public apology for its “defamatory nature.”
The fan agreed to do so and asked the organiser to address the delayed refunds. Rather than providing an explanation or an update for the issue, MND Sports & Event replied, “Your apology is conditional which is not what we demanded. Kindly delete your second post and issue an unconditional apology.” Unsatisfied with how the organiser handled the situation, the netizen posted the conversation online. This then sparked outrage among Malaysian and international SHINee fans who have been waiting to receive their refunds since the cancellation was announced.
Many criticised the organiser for their unprofessional response to fans’ enquiries. Others were surprised that the Twitter account was still active, given that the last post was made back in July. Some also warned concertgoers against buying tickets for the upcoming Nidji concert next year, as it is also being organised by MND Sports & Event. Netizens have also reached out to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN), urging them to conduct an investigation.
There were also claims that the company had been deleting and restricting comments on Instagram asking for updates on refunds. At the time of writing, MND Sports & Event has yet to respond to the backlash they have been receiving. We hope that this issue will be resolved amicably before it escalates any further.
