You’ve probably heard of unique dining experiences in Singapore – whether it’s under the sea, in complete darkness, or something else entirely. However, this new one might surprise you: it’s a restaurant set inside a cave.
Inspired by Sarawak’s iconic Mulu cave system, Cavern Restaurant is a new dining spot at Rainforest Wild Asia brought by Tunglok Group. This first and only cave-setting restaurant in Singapore is set to open on 12th March 2025 (Wednesday). It’s located at the Rainforest Wild Asia, Singapore’s fifth wildlife park.
True to its name, Cavern Restaurant closely resembles the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Mulu Cave, featuring crystalline lights reminiscent of water droplets and textured walls designed to replicate its stunning limestone surfaces. Partnering up with Sarawak’s Forestry Department, the space will also be home to wildlife such as racer snakes and giant black scorpions.
Diners can look forward to exceptionally curated menus, top-quality dishes, and expertly crafted cocktails or coffee from the intimate 10-seater cave bar. Cavern specializes in Western cuisine, led by Head Chef Sheng Lim, who is renowned for his culinary expertise at Michelin-starred establishments like CÉ LA VI and JAAN. Signature courses include grilled octopus, beef tenderloin skewers, classic Stone Age burgers, and premium steaks, among others.
Beyond its stunning aesthetics and exquisite food, this 158-seater restaurant is also dedicated to sustainability. The menu covers are crafted from mycelium leather, a biodegradable material derived from mushrooms that provides durability for up to a decade.
Additionally, the cutlery holders are made from reclaimed teak, and the restaurant has partnered with alcohol suppliers to use larger-volume packaging, reducing glass consumption and storage needs while promoting a more sustainable supply chain. Here are the details to the restaurant:
