Losing a dear family member is never easy. Malaysian composer and musician Lenny Ooi (黄得伟), also known as Ah Zui (阿水), recently revealed that his daughter-in-law suddenly passed away at the age of 30.
Lenny’s son, Benjamin, announced the news on Wednesday morning (19th February 2025) through Facebook. He revealed that his wife, Mei Huei (美慧), died in a car accident the night before. He has also shared details about her memorial service, which will begin today (20th February 2025, Thursday). Family and friends have extended their condolences to Benjamin, Lenny and the rest of the family.
The composer was also distraught over his daughter-in-law’s untimely death, taking to Facebook to mourn her. In his post, the public figure wrote, “Mei Huei, our beloved daughter-in-law, ever since you married into the Ooi family 13 years ago, Daddy and Mammy have treated you as our own and love you like our own daughter. Thank you for bringing so much joy to our family over the years and giving us two smart and loving grandchildren.”
The post continues with Lenny promising to nurture his grandchildren and raise them so they can grow up healthy. He also said that Benjamin would continue to care for Mei Huei’s parents as if they were his own. Lenny ends his tribute with, “You will always be a member of the Ooi family, and you’ll always live in our hearts. You are our Ooi family’s forever good daughter-in-law. We will always love you.”
Lenny’s post also mentioned that Mei Huei has many colleagues paying tribute to her, showing how loved she was. According to her Facebook profile, Mei Huei worked under the Felement Group, a local company specialising in aromatherapy products. It’s believed that she was a well-respected member of the company. It’s undeniable that her death has deeply affected many of her acquaintances.
