From Olivia Wilde To Emily Ratajkowski: 4 Stars Who Slammed Katy Perry’s Recent Trip To Space

When it was first reported that pop star Katy Perry would be launching into space, many assumed it was a joke. However, the Blue Origin mission turned out to be genuine, and the “ET” hitmaker wasn’t the only celebrity involved in the project. On 14th April, Katy Perry, Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez were launched into space for several minutes before safely descending back to Earth.

The star-studded crew shared footage of their experience just beyond the planet’s atmosphere, enjoying moments of zero gravity inside the spacecraft. Although the 11-minute voyage was deemed a success, the project drew criticism from many, including celebrities. Here’s what some of them had to say:

1. Emily Ratajkowski

Model and author Emily Ratajkowski took to TikTok to express her frustration over the Blue Origin mission, saying, “You said that this mission was for Mother Earth, but you’re going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that is single-handedly destroying the planet. Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what? What was the marketing there? I am disgusted.”

2. Olivia Wilde

Actress Olivia Wilde did not comment directly on the project, but appeared to throw shade at Katy Perry in an Instagram Story, sharing a meme inspired by the Blue Origin voyage. “A billion dollars bought some good memes, I guess,” she wrote—implying that the mission was a waste of money.

3. Olivia Munn

When the Blue Origin mission was first announced, actress Olivia Munn shared her thoughts on The Today Show with Jenna & Friends. She criticised the project, saying, “There are so many other things that are so important in the world right now. Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they going to do up there that has made it better for us down here?” She went on to comment on the enormous cost of space travel, questioning its value in today’s global context.

4. Amy Schumer

Although it may not have appeared as a direct criticism, the sarcasm was unmistakable. Comedian Amy Schumer took to Instagram to jokingly “announce” her “last-minute” invitation to join Katy Perry in space, clearly poking fun at the spectacle surrounding the mission. The comedian pulled out a Black Panther figurine, joking that she would be taking it with her, despite admitting it held no personal significance. “Thank you to everyone who got me here. I’ll see you guys in space,” she said.

Bonus: Wendy’s Restaurant

We decided to include this entry because of how funny it is. Who knew a fast-food chain would weigh in on Katy Perry’s trip to space? After Pop Crave reported on the singer’s safe return to Earth, Wendy’s replied on social media with, “Can we send her back?”. It’s unclear what kind of beef the restaurant has with the pop superstar, but one thing’s certain—they’re clearly not a fan.
