From Paul Mescal To Barry Keoghan: The Beatles Biopic’s Star-Studded Cast Announced

Beatlemania unite! The Fab Four are set to make a grand return to the big screen with a biopic project directed by Oscar-winner Sam Mendes titled “The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event”. In an unprecedented move, four separate films will explore the lives of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, each told from their unique perspective.

The casting choices have caused a sensation after Sony Pictures Entertainment posted the confirmed cast for the film featured all of the “internet’s boyfriends”. According to reports, Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon, Paul Mescal will be Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan will portray Ringo Starr and Joseph Quinn will play George Harrison.

This project also marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and the surviving members of The Beatles have authorised a full cinematic portrayal of their stories, granting rights to their life stories and music. Each film will narrate the band’s journey from the unique perspective of its respective member, offering audiences a deep understanding of The Beatles’ legacy.

Director Sam Mendes, known for his work on “American Beauty” and “Skyfall,” expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We need big cinematic events to get people out of the house.” The films are anticipated to be released in close proximity, creating a “binge-able” theatrical experience for audiences worldwide. He further explained that the story was too big for one film, and would not work as a TV series.

While the casting has been met with excitement, some fans have expressed concerns regarding the actors’ non-Liverpool origins. As The Beatles were true “Liverpudlians” and known for their distinctive Scouse accents—which are notoriously difficult to potray—the cast faces a real test of their acting abilities. Additionally, some fans have highlighted the lack of physical resemblance between the cast and the iconic band members.

The Beatles had a historic career as a rock band, earning eight Grammy awards and breaking numerous records until they broke up in 1970. Even decades after their split, The Beatles remain one of the best-selling and most celebrated bands in history, with their timeless songs still resonating across cultures. The four feature films are projected to be released in April 2028. Are you excited for this?
