HK Actor Ai Wai Bids Final Farewell To Late Wife By Scattering Her Ashes At Sea

It’s been a tough couple of months for Hong Kong actor Ai Wai (艾威) after losing his wife, Lisa Chan (陈美玲), to liver disease. Recently, the 66-year-old bid his final farewell to his late wife by scattering her ashes into the sea.

Earlier this week, Ai Wei returned to Sheung Sze Wan Beach, where he once lived with Lisa, to scatter her ashes into the sea. According to the actor, he chose a sea burial as a nod to how their love story began because the couple met while swimming. He added, “When my time comes, I want a sea burial too. I live by the sea and go for runs along the beach every morning. It feels like I can still connect with her through the ocean.”

Only a few relatives and friends attended the simple burial ceremony. According to reports, Ai Wai was quiet throughout the whole process. When asked whether he had any final words for his late wife, the star replied no, saying he had already said everything that needed to be said. The ceremony went smoothly, except for a moment at the start when the entire bag containing Lisa’s ashes fell into the water.

Ai Wai swiftly reached to retrieve the bag and proceeded to scatter Lisa’s ashes and flower petals to complete the ceremony. However, the actor commented on the incident, “As I prepared to scatter her ashes, I forgot they were inside an extra bag. I was trying to find the right wind direction to release them gently, but the entire bag fell into the water. It reminded me of how she fell ill and left so suddenly. It caught me off guard.”

The former TVB star admitted to having difficulties following his wife’s death. However, he’s determined to move forward with strength. The couple married in 2002 and had no children. Lisa passed away on 18th May 2025 (Sunday) due to hereditary polycystic liver and kidney disease. Before her death, she had gone public with her disease, hoping to find a suitable liver donor. She died in the hospital at age 61 while waiting for a liver transplant.

We once again extend our condolences to Ai Wai. May he find solace during this difficult time.
