When I was pregnant with my son, I treated my baby registry like I was provisioning a bunker.
I learned enough about bottle nipples, gas and flow rates that I could have delivered a small dinner-party soliloquy on which bottle worked best for slow drinkers, gassy babies and parents slowly losing their minds. I compared stroller weights, diaper ingredients, bassinet dimensions, wipe warmers, humidifiers, pacifier shapes and the moral implications of plastic toys. I bought the practical things. Then I bought practical things for the practical things. I was prepared for spit-up, blowouts, nap math, night feeds and the possibility that one tiny person might require 400 muslin blankets.
