A female TikTok user made headlines this week after a video of her uttering a derogatory remark towards other Muslim women began making its rounds on social media.
The TikTok post went viral after it was reposted by a Twitter user known as @317b48 (before it was deleted for unknown reasons). “Is your girlfriend pretty? Is she covering her aurat properly? If the answer is no, then she’s weak,” the TikToker, Asha (@ashalyabdaziz), said in the clip.

The 10-second long snippet later showed several photos of Asha wearing the purdah and also modest clothing which cover parts of her body. Despite the girl’s pure intention, the post was met with tons of backlash online. In this case, many netizens called her out for seemingly downgrading other women who have yet to properly cover their aurat.
This also caught the attention of one popular film producer, who proceeded to share her two cents on the matter. The female producer, Datuk Normashayu Puteh (also known simply as Ayu Puteh), wrote on Instagram Story, “I’ve been there. There are a few women in purdah who often talk about religious things day in and day out. But at the same time, they also like to spread false rumours about others.”
Ayu added, “They’re very brave and bold when it comes to spreading slander. I can’t believe it. Even their students are the same. It took me awhile to identify these type of people. #devilishtraits #lackofselfawareness #annoyed.”

Following the massive backlash, the self-proclaimed fashion model ended up removing the controversial post from her TikTok. Asha later took to her Instagram to issue a public apology for offending many people with her post on social media.
