When a large number of glowing fireflies come together, they create an absolutely breathtaking effect. This magical sight can be experienced in Japan during the Hotaru (firefly) season, during the months of June and July. Daniel Kordan, a landscape photographer from Russia, has been fascinated by the beauty of nature for a long time. So, when he got the incredible opportunity to witness this heavenly sight himself, he didn’t forget to capture this once-in-a-lifetime magnificence. Through spectacular photographic details, Kordan presents the beauty of the night illuminated by glowing fireflies in a truly awe-inspiring way.
Reminiscing his experience about capturing the fireflies, Kordan states it was really exciting and enchanting, like magic. When the flies synchronize their blinking, the forest gets brightened by the dim light of yellow-green flashes. When this happens, the mysterious-looking shrines in the bamboo forest feels like a dream. However, as fireflies are very sensitive to ecological conditions, photographing them at the climax of their magical light show isn’t a simple task. It requires lots of planning and preparation. Since the number of fireflies has been declining in the past few years, finding fireflies has become quite challenging.
