Malaysians Need To Work 29.2 Days To Afford Apple’s Latest iPhone 14 Pro

iPhone 13? Pfft, that’s already old news now that the brand new iPhone 14 series and other smart devices are set to hit the market very soon. As aforementioned in yesterday’s announcement from the global Apple Event 2022 livestream, the iPhone 14 series ranges from RM 4,199 – RM 8,299.

So how many days does one need to work in order to afford the latest iPhone? E-commerce site Picodi.com has created a new 2022 version of the ‘iPhone Index’ report to answer that question.

According to Picodi’s graph, an average Malaysian will have to work 29.2 days in order to afford the iPhone 14 Pro in its base version (128 GB), which costs RM 5,299. This is based on the latest Numbeo data, where it calculates that the average wage in Malaysia is RM3,810. Compared to last year, the average working days was 30.3 days (which is 1.1 days less).

This is what iPhone Index looked like in Malaysia in the last 5 years:

  • 2018 – 41.3 days
  • 2019 – 30.1 days
  • 2020 – 29.1 days
  • 2021 – 30.3 days
  • 2022 – 29.2 days

Comparatively, our friends in Singapore have to work 7.6 days to afford the cheapest iPhone 14 Pro. The Swiss will be able to afford the latest iPhone 14 the fastest, with only 4.4 working days. On the other hand, those in Turkey will take longest at 146.7 working days.
