The Journey To Gold Doesn’t End Here: Catch Team Malaysia’s Upcoming Quest For The Gold Medal In The Olympics!

With most of our Malaysian contingent back to home grounds, including bronze medal winners, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, we might think that this might be the end of it for our country’s quest in obtaining our first gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics. However, the next few sporting events that showcase our Malaysian athletes would wash your worries away! It is no doubt that sports unite us, as Malaysians — the tears of joy, adrenaline rush and shouting in excitement or victory sends a gush of euphoria and comfort that can’t be explained in any way possible.

Since our journey to obtain the gold medal is definitely not over yet, it might be difficult to keep up with all the events. You would not want to miss out on the fun of watching the live telecast of the sporting event, would you? Well, we’ve got you covered! Here are our athletes, in the fight for the gold medal and the tentative schedule of their respective sporting events!

Azizulhasni Awang

The Izu Velodrome will witness the performance of the Pocket Rocketman tomorrow, 4th August 2021. Azizulhasni Awang, previously created history as the first Malaysian cyclist to win a medal in Olympics history. The 33-year-old cyclist who would be competing in the keirin and sprint events have won the keirin bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro! Now, Malaysia’s hope is for him to win the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom

This 25-year-old cyclist stunned everyone by winning the 2021 Australian Track National Championship in the keirin event, defeating his compatriot Azizulhasni Awang. Although all eyes are on Azizulhasni, Shah Firdaus is definitely one to watch! He’s definitely a potential medal winner due to his recent achievements in the sporting events contested.

This iconic diver is the ultimate pride of Malaysians and a potential gold medal contender for the Tokyo Olympics. Having won bronze in the 2012 London Olympics, this Sarawak-born athlete would definitely have the experience required to win the gold medal for the nation! She’ll be contending along with her fellow comrade, Cheong Jun Hoong.

Cheong Jun Hoong is another prized diver of Malaysia — a potential gold medal winner, in fact! Alongside Pandelela Rinong in the 2016 Rio Olympics, for the synchronised 10m platform event, they’ve managed to bag the silver medal. These two are definitely an inspiration for many divers out there. Albeit these two contending against each other in the same event this time, it should definitely be a pride to watch them in action.

Kelly Tan

Golf is indeed an underrated sport in Malaysia but it equally has potential for a medal for our country. Kelly Tan might be the hidden gem for our national contingent. Catch her golfing her way to bag a medal in the women’s individual golf event tomorrow, 4th August. Early risers could indeed catch a glimpse of her competing in this event as it would be held at 6:30am.
