Viewers seem to be hook, line, and sinker for the Hallyu wave as evident by the reception of “All Of Us Are Dead” (지금 우리 학교는). Following in the footsteps of “Squid Game”, the coming-of-age zombie drama has clawed its way to reach No. 1 on Netflix.

In speaking to media outlet Wikitree, director Lee Jae Gyu talked about the K-drama’s success, plans for season 2’s storyline and which fan favourite character he’d like to bring back.

If season 1 continues to be popular in the long run, I think it will be the foothold for the second season,” the 51-year-old filmmaker was quoted as saying. “If season 1 showed a comparison and contrast in how adults and students survive the zombie apocalypse, I want to show the comparison between the surviving human group and the zombie group in season 2.”

“All Of Us Are Dead” saw the students of Hyosan High School being trapped after their school becomes ground zero for the zombie virus outbreak. Towards the end of the season, male lead Lee Cheong San (played by Yoon Chan Young, who was recently accused of bullying) met his unfortunate death after sacrificing himself by going up against villain Gwi Nam. Many were heartbroken to his tragic end, including the director himself.

If Cheong San were to come alive, I think there will be viewers who won’t be able to accept that but also there are going to be fans who are happy about it. We have a definite plan, but it’s difficult to share it here, now,” Lee Jae Gyu explained. “I do have a vague picture that I drew out imagining what would happen if all the other actors, including Cheong San, were to appear in Season 2. I definitely want to add more plot twists than season 1.”

When I was watching Cheong San die through the monitor, I cried a lot. It really hurt my heart that he made the choice he did when he was a kid who oppressed his inner feelings. I was proud of him but also so sad when he said, ‘I am the happiest guy in this school,’ as he comforted himself,” Lee Jae Gyu admitted.

While some insist that Cheong San should remain dead, others argue that while he did fall into the fire, we didn’t see him die. If he survived the fire, then wouldn’t that mean that Gwi Nam also made it our alive? Regardless, “All Of Us Are Dead” season 2 could always show Cheong San through flashbacks.

It’s also be exciting to see class president Choi Nam Ra leading a new group of evolved zombies (with possible abilities like hers).
